Grand Prix cars pre 1947
Twenty five jewels built between 1925 and 1939 have given life to this category, that saw usual Bronson dominate two testing sessions at the wheel of his ERA D Type. In race it was the same English driver who started better than the others coming first on St Devote bend, run after by Gans in ERA B Type, who stole the second position of Portmann in Maserati 4CL. On lap four the Swiss recovered ill-gotten gains thanks to a successful overtaking on Mirabeau and started a ride which brought him to threaten the leader of the race, till when, at two rounds only from the finish, he was obliged to retire. Meantime, behind them, Landy with his ERA B Type was threatening behind Guns, succeeding in overtaking him on the Rascasse turn, thanks to the rival’s passing. Also Dowling in ERA B Type passed him, but on the next lap he ended by an about-face on St Devote, giving back the third podium step to Guns.
